Tyres Test Reviews - Brand by Brand Analysis

Before buying new tyres for your car, it is extremely important that you go through a comprehensive tyre review of the make and model that you are planning to buy. Compare tyre brands, get to know the ratings that individual makes and models have gained in road testing as well as listen to what experts are saying in tyres reviews.

That's why, in this section we present tyre reviews of different makes and brands of tyres available for your car and make an attempt to identify the performance characteristics of individual tyre brands and models as judged by professional tyre testers, comparison specialists and journalists in numerous tyre tests that took place in the consumer press across Europe.

Because each tyre test was subjected to different parameters, included different cars, sizes and brands etc, we have simply taken each brand and model which is covered in the tyre tests we reviewed and briefly summarised the key strengths and weaknesses of the tyres according to the journalists who covered these tests.

The comments made in this section do not necessarily represent our opinion of the tyres covered. The opinions should be used as a guide only and understood for what they are; a series of opinions, albeit the opinions of professional drivers.

The table on the left of your screen lists all the brands and tyres that we have reviewed. Please feel free to click the name of the tyre brand that you are interested in.

Below are answers to some of the questions that we are frequently asked by those searching for unbiased and honest car tyre testing services and reviews.

I’m looking for a quality tyre at cheap prices?

If you’re looking for a cheap tyre this doesn’t mean that you’re necessarily buying a low quality budget tyre or a tyre that isn’t going to grip or give long life. A cheap tyre can be a well known brand name tyre, which is cheaper becuase bulk buying on tyres enables us to offer high performance tyres at cheap prices.

Falken, Kumho, Nexen are all good brand tyres. They are however cheaper because of many factors, including less cost of brand name advertising. Our advice for UK tyre buyers is not to be put off by cheaper tyres just because of their price but to properly research and dedicate time to read reviews, comments and recommendations based on expert tyre tests.

Which tyres are suitable for my car?

There are many tyres that are suitable for your car apart from the tyres that came factory fitted or the tyres that were on the car when you bought the vehicle.

You can change brand names and models or even sizes. However, in most cases it is advisable to stay with the factory recommended tyre size.

If you really feel you need to change sizes, have this looked up in your car information booklet. Alternatively you can find a sticker on the car that is either at the inside pillar of the driver door or behind the petrol cap. This will guide you regarding the alternative tyre sizes you can buy for your car. Remember that if you are to change tyre sizes, it is extremely important that you change all four tyres.

Switching to a different brand model of tyres is entirely up to you. Review the different makes and models of tyres currently available in the market and decide for yourself which tyre brand you think will offer you the best value for money. Please note that for some performance vehicles, tyre brands should not be changed unless the company recommends an alternative brand. Click on the tab on the left and explore the different tyre brands and options. Expert reviews and tyre tests are also provided.

I need a performance tyre?

Performance tyres generally fall into two catagories, a road performance tyre or a track day performance tyre. There are tyres that can be used for both road and track day performance. If you have a high performance car, the general advice is to look for a tyre that holds speed rating of W, Y or Z. Anything below these is not really suitable for the speed and load generated by performance cars. Click on the ‘performance tyres test’ to find out more.
