| Clive Ward from Exeter writes:
Cars today have really nice alloy rims and some people pay extra and have them upgraded to 19 or 18 inch alloys. Drives often when parking their vehicles scrape the tyre and alloy against the side kerb, which ends up damaging the alloy wheel. Today this rarely happens as manufactures have on most tyres put a rim protector on the tyre. The rim protector is a ring or rubber that overhangs the rim hence if the tyre does touch the rim protector will take most of the damage. However some caution is still advised as a damaged rim protector can sometimes get you in trouble with the law.
